Kuih seller, Chinese national local Covid-19 cases in Kuching today

The statistics of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak as of Oct 23, 2020.

KUCHING, Oct 23: A kuih seller and a Chinese national were the two new cases of local Covid-19 transmission reported in Kuching today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said that the state tally of positive cases has now been raised to 772.

However, Lubok Antu has regained its green zone status after no cases were reported in the past 14 days.

Case 771 involved a kuih seller, who personally went for Covid-19 screening at a private hospital on Oct 22 after having difficulty to sleep well. His rT-PCR test result returned positive on the same day.

Case 772 involved a Chinese national who had undergone Covid-19 screening at a private hospital on Oct 22 as she intended to return to her home country. The test result was found positive on the same day. She was asymptomatic.

Both cases have no travel history out of the country or had visited Covid-19 high-risk areas or had come into contact with a positive case. They are now being isolated and treated in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Further investigation and contact tracing are actively being conducted for both cases.

Meanwhile, SDMC updated that three cases have been discharged from hospitals today with two from SGH and one from Bintulu Hospital.

Thus, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak have been increased to 721 or 93.39 per cent of total positive cases so far.

A total of 32 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals in the state currently with 20 in SGH, seven in Miri Hospital and five in Bintulu Hospital.

There are two clusters still active in Sarawak namely the Bah Arnab Cluster in Kuching with 12 cases and Putra Cluster in Bintulu with six cases, both including the index cases.

For the Bah Arnab Cluster, four cases have recovered and discharged from the hospital as of 12pm yesterday (Oct 22), leaving eight patients still receiving treatment but they are in stable condition.

There were no new cases reported in Putra Cluster and one of the six positive cases were registered in Selangor.

As of 12pm yesterday (Oct 22), all cases in this cluster were still receiving treatment in hospital and in stable condition.

Only Kuching and Bintulu maintained as yellow zone areas with a total of 17 local transmission cases recorded within the past 14 days with 13 cases in Kuching and four in Bintulu.

Sarawak also recorded six more persons-under-investigation (PUI) with four cases pending laboratory test results.

There were also 165 more persons-under-surveillance (PUS) registered into identified hotels to undergo quarantine.

As of today, there are a total number of 1,885 individuals undergoing quarantine in 22 hotels throughout the state. —DayakDaily
