Two Sarawakians in National Floorball team to play against Thailand in SEA Games 2019

MIRI, Nov 24: Two Sarawakian floorball players have recently been selected for Malaysia National Floorball Women’s Team to participant in the SEA Games 2019 which will be held in Manila.

They are Ivana Sonia Beriak from Asajaya, Samarahan and Janeter Kadir from Miri.


“We are confident that their total dedication and commitment towards the sport will drive them to higher level and inspire more Sarawakians to embrace this new and exciting sport,” said National Floorball Association Miri Division president, Farrell Choo at a press conference at I-System College, Miri yesterday.

Choo said Sarawakians are very proud to have both of them playing for the nation.

“The players are in good mood and will be looking forward to their first training session tomorrow at College of Human Kinetics Gymnasium, the University of Philippines,” said Choo.

Choo said the Malaysia National Floorball teams consists of 40 players and eight officials had arrived in Manila, Philippines yesterday (Nov 23) for the SEA Games 2019 which will be held from Nov 25 to Dec 2.

He said the women’s team will face Thailand tomorrow (Nov 25) at 10am.

The Malaysia National Floorball Women’s Team which is now Manila for the SEA Games 2019.

“The team suffered a narrow loss to the same opponent in the World Floorball Championship (WFC) qualification in Bangkok earlier this year,” said Choo.

Thailand scored the golden goal in extra time and was qualified for the WFC, leaving the Malaysian Women Team in despair. The Malaysian women team will be looking to avenge its previous defeat comes Monday.

The men’s team will also be meeting Thailand on Monday, at 4pm. The team is expecting a very tough defence from the Thai team which had just beaten Malaysia at the recent Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation (AOFC) cup 2019. — DayakDaily
