KUCHING, March 2: An enforcement officer from the Ministry of Home Affairs was killed in a motorcycle crash at Jalan Lapangan Terbang this morning.
The victim, 43, suffered serious head, neck and spine injuries in a self-accident that occured at about 12.15am.
According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, initial investigations indicated that the deceased was speeding from BDC to Jalan Lapangan Terbang heading towards Kuching Central.
“We believe he was speeding on that road before he lost control of the motorcycle, crashed and rammed the traffic light. He was pronounced dead during treatment at Sarawak General Hospital around 1.40am,” Alexson revealed in a statement.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old student from Taman Malihah Matang was also killed in a road accident last night.
Alexson said the victim was heading towards Kampung Kudei on a motorcycle when the incident occurred at about 10pm.
The deceased collided with a car driven by a 20-year-old who was turning into the junction at Lorong 6 Taman Malihah Matang.
Due to the impact of the accident, the victim was flung onto the road shoulder. He was pronounced dead at Sarawak General Hospital. — DayakDaily
