Two killed, two injured in two-vehicle crash near Paragon traffic light in Bintulu

BINTULU, April 19: Two people were killed while two others were seriously injured in a late-night road crash involving a Toyota Hilux and a Proton Saga in front of the traffic light near Paragon here last night.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident was reported at 11.54pm.

A team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Bintulu), led by Sat Rawing, arrived at the scene three minutes later.

The crash involved four victims in the Proton Saga—one male driver and three passengers—while the driver of the Toyota Hilux, a Chinese national, escaped unhurt.

Upon arrival, rescuers found two victims from the Proton Saga trapped in the wreckage, while two others had already been extricated by members of the public.

The two trapped victims were successfully removed using rescue tools, but were unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (KKM).

The deceased have been identified as Yiu Siew Lee, 34, and Janam Ampar, 44.

Meanwhile, the injured were identified as Wilson Tawi, 24, and Anis Sintiabella, 19, an Indonesian national.

Wilson was transported to the hospital using Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, while Anis was taken by ambulance.

Firefighters concluded the operation at 1.10am after confirming the situation was under control.

The remains of the deceased were handed over to the police for further action. – DayakDaily
