“That is for every goody bag that a person buys, Our Roots will donate one to the needy and a meaningful card from the buyer will be attached along the bag.

“We hope to strengthen our roots and give back to the communities with a small effort.

“We aim to reach out to at least 500 families and hope our fellow Sarawakians can contribute some love and support towards this campaign,” Ooi said.

Towards this, the duo had roped in a few local businesses by buying CNY goods from them and selling them to Sarawakians at reasonable prices besides helping the local economy.

The idea of giving out to the needy and underprivileged was mooted after both of them realised that some old folks and poor people were struggling to put food on their table during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our Roots one-month charity campaign will kick start from today (December 15) onwards.

Those who are interested to buy the goody bags can visit Ooi’s Facebook page at oseebee or Hon’s business page at rosellekitchen to find out more.

Ooi said the Federation of Chinese Association Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division as well as Hope Place will assist to distribute the goody bags to the needy and underprivileged.

Meanwhile, Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division president Datuk Richard Wee commended the noble cause of Hon and Ooi as well as their efforts to assist the needy through Our Roots charity campaign.
