The roadblock was set up starting from 9.30pm until 2am by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to discourage road users from drunk driving.

According to Kuching District Deputy Chief Supt Merbin Lisa in a statement, three drivers were stopped at the roadblock for blood alcohol testing using the EBA 2 device. Two of them tested over the permissible limit.

Both drivers will be charged under Sec 45A9(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

A total of 55 vehicles and 76 individuals were checked during the operation.

Merbin revealed this operation will be held regularly to prevent drunk driving accidents from happening. He urged the public to obey traffic laws and not to drive after consuming alcohol. — DayakDaily
