KUCHING, Oct 23: Police have arrested two women and seized 724 cartridges suspected to contain cannabis liquid worth an estimated RM347,520 in an anti-drug operation at a residence in Jalan Wan Alwi here on Oct 20.

Police also seized RM5,087 in cash and SGD67, believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking activities.

Alexson said the syndicate was believed to have been active since August this year, using digital communication applications to communicate with buyers before delivering drug supplies to various locations around Kuching.

“The syndicate’s modus operandi was to use digital communication applications to communicate with buyers, with drug supplies delivered around Kuching,” he said in a statement today.

Preliminary urine screening tests found that the local suspect tested negative for drugs, while the foreign national tested positive for ketamine.

Checks on both suspects also found that neither had any previous criminal record.

Both women have been remanded for five days, from Oct 22 to 26, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes upon conviction.

Alexson said the successful operation was the result of continuous intelligence gathering and cooperation from the public.

“The Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking. Possessing, trafficking or protecting drug-related activities constitutes a serious offence under the law,” he said.

He added that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department remained committed to combating drug-related activities to protect present and future generations, describing drugs as the nation’s number one enemy.
