KUCHING, June 20: Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) today presented retirement pension (‘pencen penakat’) amounting to RM1,500 to the family of the late Jasmin Mius from Kpg Emperoh Semadang at Jalan Borneo Heights.

Agnes Mius, who is the deceased’s elder sister received the pension payment.

The event was graced by Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Willie Mongin. Also present was State Perkeso director Philip Sungkan and head of the Synergy and Caring Squad from Perkeso headquarters, Ismail Hashim.

The late Jasmin passed away on Dec 10 2010 at the age of 23 and had twin daughters Jeniffer Lydia and Ellyce Uring.

Both of them were three-years-old when their mother passed away. Their father left them in the care of his elder sister Agnes.

Now both aged 15 and in Form Three, the twins are under Agnes’ care at the village and will be receiving a monthly pension from Perkeso until they reach the age of 21.

An inquiry as to whether the late Jasmin was eligible for Perkeso benefits was made through Perkeso’s Facebook page by the deceased’s cousin, Brandon.

Upon checking, the deceased found to have contributed to Perkeso until his last employment with a company in Selangor in 2007.

Perkeso then checked the matter and found out that the deceased was eligible for the benefit.

Meanwhile, Philip at a press conference said Perkeso will continue to work with Willie to ensure that the people in the area are aware of Perkeso’s benefits. — DayakDaily
