KUCHING, June 20: The formation of the Rajang Delta Development Agency is to coordinate and develop infrastructure to grow the economy in areas under its jurisdiction, says Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Len Talif Salleh.

According to Len Talif, who is also the Rajang Delta Development Agency chairman, the agency will place emphasis on the development of infrastructure including roads, water, electricity, telecommunications.

“This includes the development of ‘Kampung Tradisi’ and Resettlement Schemes (SPS) and Village Expansion Schemes (SPK),” he told reporters during a press conference held after the handing over of land titles to residents of Kampung Tanjung Bundong at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre, today.

Apart from that, Len Talif noted, Rajang Delta Development Agency will also focus on developing the uniqueness of the areas involved.

For example, he said, during Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri visit to Belawai, he has seen all the important infrastructure that should be developed in Pantai Belawai.

“It will not only benefit the local villages, but also those from the entire Rajang valley,” Len Talif added.

Yesterday (June 19), Abang Johari announced that the Sarawak government will be establishing two new development agencies namely the Rajang Delta Development Agency and Betong Development Agency.
