KUCHING, April 10: The Jalan Matang expansion project could face a slight delay due to the underground electricity cable layout.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said currently, the contractor appointed could not pinpoint the underground cable to avoid damaging it because Sarawak Energy Berhad does not have the details of the layout.

“This matter is being worked on to prevent casualties to contractor workers and road users.

“To my understanding, they are in the process of identifying the cable layout so that they can build the road in stages,” he told reporters when met after the launching ceremony of Bazaar Ramadan E-Mart Matang 2023, here today.

Fazzrudin said he also hopes traffic management for the project would allow road users to use the road during the construction period.

On November 1, 2022, a new contractor was appointed to upgrade Jalan Baru Matang, involving a 4.4-kilometre road from Jalan Matang Jaya to Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang Junction.
