KUCHING, June 23: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) has confirmed an incident involving a CN235-220M aircraft at Kuching International Airport (KIA) that occurred at 11.15am today and went viral on social media.
“The aircraft from No. 1 Squadron, Kuching Air Base, experienced a nose landing gear malfunction while landing after completing a logistics flight assignment from Labuan and Kota Kinabalu.
“All crew members and passengers are safe and sustained no injuries. The TUDM will establish a board of inquiry to determine the cause of the incident,” it said.
Earlier today, Malaysia Airports issued a travel advisory on Facebook to announce the temporary closure of the airport’s runway until 3pm today.
It explained that the closure was to facilitate the removal of TUDM aircraft and subsequent runway clearing works, adding that a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) had been issued and that the closure would impact all flight operations at KIA.
Malaysia Airports also urged passengers to check their flight schedules due to the disruption.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that his ministry is in close communication with the relevant agencies to monitor the situation closely. — DayakDaily
