SIBU, May 23: Ten women have qualified for the final of the Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu 2024 competition, which will be held in conjunction with the Sibu Division Gawai Dayak Night on May 25.
The finalists were chosen from a pool of 15 participants during the preliminary round held yesterday (May 22).
The selected finalists are Sylviana Rinya Galing, Suriana Abas, Nelly Mujan Rogelio, Clarissa Rinya Setian, Deirdre Serena Sendi Michael Remy, Bernardette Sumbang, Vennellise Lee, Cynthia Runai Simond, Manisha Vyonnie Gelebat, and Kartina Bagan.
During the preliminary round, participants were judged on three criteria: beauty (50 per cent), talent (30 per cent), and self-confidence (20 per cent).
The selection was conducted by three judges, the Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) chairperson Angelyn Uchi Maseng, Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) deputy chairperson Johnady Janton, and Sibu Municipal Council councilor Donna Petrus Ngelai.
The winner of Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu 2024 will receive RM4,000, a crown, sash, trophy, hamper, and a certificate of participation.
The runner-up (Lulong) will receive RM3,000, a sash, trophy, hamper, and a certificate of participation, while the third-place winner (Selinggar Matahari) will be awarded RM2,000, a sash, trophy, hamper, and a certificate of participation.
Winners from fourth to tenth place will each receive RM800 and a certificate of participation as a consolation prize.
Public Works Minister and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, will be the ‘Tuai Pengabang’ at the event, scheduled to begin at 7pm.
This event is jointly organised by SDNU Sibu, SIDS Sibu, Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Sibu, and Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA) Sibu. — DayakDaily
