KUCHING, Jan 20: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) issued a stern warning to 14 staff members who have yet to undergo Covid-19 testing, following a confirmed case among its total of 91 staff.

In a press statement today, SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said disciplinary action will be taken against them should they fail to obey the instruction.

“In compliance with the SOP (standard operating prodecure) issued by the SDMC (Sarawak Disaster Management Committee), 77 out of 91 SRDC staff have undergone the PCR swab tests.

“We are surprised that 14 of them still have not done the PCR swab tests. Under the SOP, it is compulsory that all SRDC staff must do the PCR swabs. There is no reason to skip the swab tests.

“SRDC hereby advises all 14 staff who have not undergone the compulsory PCR swab tests to do so at once, failing which stern disciplinary action will be taken against them.

“If they still adamantly refuse to do the PCR swab tests, we shall lodge a report with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing and the SDMC,” said Petrus.

He stressed that the unfortunate and sad scenario of the Pasai Cluster must be avoided at all cost.

Meanwhile, Petrus disclosedthat the senior staff who tested positive for Covid-19 and has been hospitalised is showing improvement in his health condition.

“He was intubated but thankfully he was extubated a few days ago. SRDC would like to take this opportunity to profusely thank the medical team of the Sibu Hospital for doing an excellent job.”

Petrus also revealed that sanitation was carried out in SRDC offices situated at the 17th and 18th floors of Wisma Sanyan.

He said the sanitisation was necessary after the confirmed case came to light.

“Out of abundance of caution, the Minister of Local Government and Housing (Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian) has advised that SRDC will only commence providing essential services to the people after 50 per cent of the PCR results are known,” said Petrus. — DayakDaily
