KUCHING, Nov 24: Progressive Democratic Party’s (PDP) position is to be part of the “unity government” proposed by the King but the party has no details with regards to which parties would it consist of, despite receiving an invitation to join it.
However, party president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said he was not informed of Gabungan Parti Sarawak MPs’ audience with the King which took place at the Istana yesterday.
“Yesterday I wasn’t informed to go there. May be they could not get me. They did not inform because it was last minute. What I understood, the Agong wanted to advise for (the formation of) a unity government,” said Tiong when met by the media at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.
The Bintulu MP said at this point of time, PDP is taking “the wait and see approach”.
“I have said already, we will abide by the Agong’s advice and we see how it goes. But of course, nobody wants the government formed to be an extremist government. It must be what we called a people-oriented government which does not put too much on religion or a racist government,” said Tiong who is also Dudong assemblyman.
As the situation is still fluid, he did not want to explain further but left it to the King to decide especially now that His Majesty has called for the meeting of the Malay Conference of Rulers today.
“We wait until we hear what he (the King) says. We all wait until we know what is the so-called ‘unity government’,” said Tiong when pressed further.
However, he was quite certain that PDP has been invited to be part of the unity government.
“PDP has been Invited, yes. As I said, at the last minute, they were not able to get me, that was why I have not been informed (to be there at the Istana),” said Tiong. — DayakDaily
