KUCHING, Sept 18: The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China Dato Sri Tiong King Sing expressed his regrets over constantly hearing of internal disputes and divisions within domestic Chinese associations.

He said the growth, transformation and prosperity of an association depends inextricably on internal unity and its ability to mitigate internal affairs well.

“In addition to good operation, there must also be a sound and responsible handover of duties and succession.

“This way, the operation and development of the organisation’s affairs and activities can proceed well,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, urged local Chinese business communities to actively participate in China’s modernisation drive and take on new challenges.

He said commercial activities are abundant in various fields of trade and economic cooperation between Malaysia and China, and many projects require collaboration to achieve a win-win situation.

“The business community in Sarawak is facing the impact of an unstable global situation, a dilemma similar to other ASEAN member states. The question is who can more effectively seek change and face challenges.

“Improve production through reforms, look for and seize opportunities. This is the only way to break through to the next level and push the Sarawak-China cooperation to a higher level,” he said during the Kuching China Trades Importers & Exporters Association (KCTIEA) 48th anniversary dinner celebration at a local restaurant here tonight.

The dinner themed “Together We Create Brilliance” was held to commemorate the 48th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations as well as celebrate the mid-autumn festival.

Meanwhile, Tiong also announced his approval for RM30,000 in funding to KCTIEA for their new office.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian’s representative and also Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, His Excellency Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China Xing Weiping, KCTIEA president Datuk Yii Ming Tang, and dinner organising chairman Sim Kiang Chiok were among those present. — DayakDaily
