Three arrested in Bau for online gambling

Police are seen checking the suspect's details after allegedly suspected of playing an online gambling at a coffee shop, yesterday.

KUCHING, Aug 13: A 41-year-old man was arrested for allegedly being involved in online gambling during ‘Op Dadu’, yesterday.

Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement issued today said the suspect was arrested at 2.30pm at a coffeeshop along Bau-Lundu road.

“The suspect, who is a lorry driver from Kampung Stenggang was arrested by a team of police from Bau District police crime division unit, while playing online gambling on his smartphone. Police also seized one unit of smartphone and an undisclosed sum of money,” said Poge.


He added that a background check on the suspect showed no previous record and the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

On another note, Poge also disclosed that two individuals from Bau were also arrested for allegedly being online gambling top-up agents.

According to Poge, the first arrest involved a 20-year-old woman from Kampung Podam, who worked as a cashier at a mini mart in Bau, followed by the second arrest of a 34-year-old man from Kampung Tanjung, who also worked as a cashier at a grocery store in Bau, on the same day.

He said two units of smartphones and an undisclosed amount of money was also seized from both suspects during the arrest.

“Both suspects have no previous record and the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of Common Gaming Houses Act 1953,” he said.–DayakDaily.
