Three arrested for suspected drug trafficking, possession

MARUDI, March 14: A woman was amongst three suspects arrested by police here on Tuesday for drug trafficking and possession.

According to Marudi police chief DSP Gabriel Risut, the arrests were made during a raid on a house at Jalan Merpati Kampung Kayan, Long Lama at 3.30pm following month-long surveillance on the suspects’ activities.

“The suspects aged 30 to 43-years-old have been detained under police custody to facilitate our investigation into the case,” said Gabriel.

During the raid, police seized drugs suspected be ‘syabu’ weighing 62.7g with an estimated street value of RM9,000.

Police also confiscated a four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to the female suspect.

The police raid team found the drugs concealed inside a container in a bedroom.

Further investigations revealed that the female suspect has been operating a groceries shop in Long Lama.

“We believe that the female suspect, assisted by her two male accomplices have been involved in selling drugs for the local market,” Gabriel added.

The case is being is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which provides the death penalty upon conviction. — DayakDaily
