KUCHING, May 19: It is the Sarawak government’s ‘kampung’ (feudal or old-fashioned) way that has gotten Sarawak into the global limelight, says Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman in rebuking Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen (PH-DAP).

Specifically on the phrase ‘kampung’ way, Fazzrudin was addressing a statement made by Chong in yesterday’s (May 19) sitting in which the latter had described GPS’ way of tabling Bills as the ‘kampung’ way.

When commending Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan for tabling the Forests (Amendment) Bill 2022 at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today, Fazzrudin said: “That is our ‘kampung’ way.

“Our ‘kampung’ way has gained world recognition recently whereby our YAB Premier was invited onto an international platform to present a paper at the Hydrogen Summit 2022 in Rotterdam.”

Fazzrudin, who is also the chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, said the GPS-led Sarawak government strives to fight for Sarawak rights even when all odds are against it, which it has proven successful.

“Our achievements have been shared time and time again in this august House. The Opposition doubted us when we brought Petronas to court. We all know how that turned out,” he said before he started debating the Forests (Amendment) Bill 2022.

Referring to the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2022 which the Sarawak government proposed to claim its rights over the spectrum above Sarawak lands, Chong viewed it to be unconstitutional as it contradicts the Federal Constitution. — DayakDaily
