KUCHING, Oct 31: A tender will be called in November for flood mitigation initiatives for several areas in Kuching.
According to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the entire project is expected to be completed in two years and will resolve the flash flood issue.
āOur entire district is divided into six zones in the MBKS jurisdiction. We have a contractor every year, so if it is a larger one, we will call for a tender immediately.
āOf course, the term contractors are also by tender. There are approximately four contractors in the six zones so they will handle roughly some areas included in their bids.
āAs the year comes to a close, there are still some that we are attempting to rush, so I hope the citizens will give us some time and we will try to cover as much as we can,ā he said this afternoon in a Facebook live video during the handover upgrading project at Bintawa here.
He went on to say that for large projects, an open tender will be issued directly.
āConcerning the flooding issues mentioned two or three weeks ago, we visited several places in Kuching last week with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak, as well as the political secretary and our Council.
āThe areas are scheduled to be put out for tender in the coming month. I hope there will be a follow-up after that.
āOf course, the whole project will take about two years to resolve these flash flood issues.ā ā DayakDaily
