KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31: Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, has addressed criticism leveled against him for his participation in alcohol consumption and dancing during a festival celebration.

He was referring to Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati’s comments during the Budget 2024 debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 16, who reportedly criticised Tiong by asking whether he was trying to promote the culture of intoxication and dancing publicly.

“Masjid Tanah MP mentioned about me drinking (but) I am not a Muslim so what is wrong with that?

“When I went to Pelangai (in Bentong, Pahang), they invited me to a lantern festival where I drank (alcohol) and had some fun with the kids and acted a bit foolish but what’s the problem with that? Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat here today.

Tiong who is Bintulu Member of Parliament (MP) further said that an MP has every right to serve the people but he or she must not make any negative comments related to other races that could prove harmful to the unity in the country.

“We have to respect each other and only then can we achieve peace and unity,” he added. – DayakDaily
