SERIAN, July 5: The tender for the Sarawak Science Centre (SSC) will be issued next year, says Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

He revealed the project presently is at the design stage.

“For the Sarawak Science Centre project at a cost of RM190 million, the tender will be issued next year and is expected to be completed in 2024,” he told reporters today.

He had earlier officiated at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) ‘Green Box Bright Up Kiosk’ programme at Kg Bunga, here.

Sagah said the SSC, which is the brainchild of Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will inspire children to have interest in science.

“The SSC will inspire and get our children to have interest in STEM,” Sagah asserted, adding the centre will also help to promote STEM subjects among school children.

According to him, the centre will operate based on a model from Singapore, although it will not replicate it 100 per cent knowing that Sarawak has its own niche.

The SSC will be sited on a 10.8-acre plot of land located strategically along Jalan Stadium in Petra Jaya.

Also present at the function were Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, Permanent Secretary to Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datu Kameri Affandi and Batu Lintang Teachers Education Institute director Dr Lambat Lindong. — DayakDaily
