KUCHING May 18: Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada has revealed that he was recently approached by a keen investor who wishes to open the first factory at the Tebedu Industrial Estate.
However, he said that despite having approval for operating a factory in the industrial park, the investor is subject to payment of a land premium at a rate of RM10 per square foot.
“This posed a problem for the investor because the earlier rates were only RM2 for uncleared land and RM5 for the filled land per square foot,” he said when debating the Sarawak Governor’s speech at today’s Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN).
He also appealed to the Sarawak government to award the first applicant a ‘pioneer status’ to set up their first factory at the industrial zone at Tebedu.
Dr Sinang said 133.4 hectares of land acquired by the government from the villagers in the area was for the Tebedu Inland Port and 36 general industries in the industrial park.
Meanwhile, he also said the industrial park can help the government to accelerate the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, boost the economy in the area, and create much-needed jobs.
“I hope and trust the government would open up the said industrial park soon so that industry players could come to open factories.
“I also dream that my constituency would one day develop in line with the PCDS 2030,” he said. — DayakDaily
