KUCHING, Oct 20: Team MakeItReal has been crowned the champion of the Senior Category in NASA Space Apps Sarawak 2023.
Team MakeItReal come up with their Eclipse Odyssey App, beating four other teams in the category, bringing home RM7,000, including a medal and certificate each for each respective members.
In the Junior Category, Team The Four Elementals from SMK Bintulu bested four other team finalists to become champion in the Junior Category, bringing home RM5,000, as well as a medal and certificate each.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Ministry Dato Roland Sagah Wee Inn hopes for more participation for the Senior Category, especially from Sarawak-based institution of higher learnings namely Curtin, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) and i-CATS.
“Participating in a programme like this or any other hackathon gives students the competitive edge. I assure you, the persistence, determination, teamwork, problem solving skills, bravery to explore uncharted territories and moving out of your comfort zone are qualities that will come useful in your future careers, and even personal lives,” he said.
This year NASA Space Apps Sarawak 2023 celebrated a series of successful events, including 48 school roadshows across Sarawak, leaving a lasting impact on students in urban and rural landscapes.
Notably, 33 per cent of participants hailed from suburban and rural districts, including Subbis, Param, Sri Aman and Kapit, where they delved into captivating topics such as NASA’s asteroid exploration, the upcoming Artemis Il mission, and the cutting-edge science and technology of the James Webio Space Telescope. — DayakDaily
