KUCHING, Oct 20: The Malaysian Goods Mini Carnival Tour 2023 aims to serve as a catalyst for encouraging domestic economic growth by promoting the purchase and consumption of locally produced goods and services.

The three-day carnival for Sarawak Zone at Bintang Megamall in Miri was launched by Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) secretary-general Dato’ Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar today.

The event showcases products from 18 local exhibitors, all from Sarawak.

This carnival is part of the KPDN’s Buy Malaysia Goods Campaign (KBBM) 2023, designed to inspire the people of Sarawak to prioritise locally crafted products.

Mohd Sayuthi emphasised that this year’s KBBM is a pivotal step taken by the government and the Ministry to advance Malaysian goods, particularly in a time of rising living costs and global economic challenges.

“Among the KBBM initiatives implemented this year include the empowerment of local products in the local retail industry and online platforms, digital animation media initiatives, themed sales initiatives based on specific segments and also the implementation of the KBM Mini Tour which has traveled to five zones or regions in Malaysia.

“These efforts will culminate with the Malaysian Goods Carnival at the end of the year,” he said in a media release today.

The carnival will also feature micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players selected from various zones and regions, introducing their products to the local community.

Activities will include exhibitions, sales, informative sessions, and engaging attractions for visitors.

KPDN is calling upon Malaysians to ‘Let’s Support and Buy,’ urging consumers to make informed choices by selecting Malaysian products known for their quality and comparability to foreign alternatives.

KPDN’s ultimate hope is that the people of Sarawak actively participate in the carnival, showing their support for local entrepreneurs and, in turn, contributing to the restoration of the national economy.
