KUCHING, Feb 4: The Tanjong Manis Water Supply System Phase 1 Project is expected to start operations in the third quarter of this year.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the project is almost complete and is awaiting inspection and the testing process on the existing pipe system.

He said with the completion of the water supply project, the Tanjong Manis, Belawai, and Pulau Bruit areas will receive water supply from two sources, including the Bayong Water Treatment Plant in Sarikei.

Julaihi told this to reporters during a visit to the raw water intake pond in Sungai Sadit today.

He said the 20 MLD raw water intake project, which takes its source from Sungai Rajang, costs RM16.8 million.

He added construction started on July 1, 2020, and was scheduled to be completed on June 30, 2021.

But due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lack of workforce, progress has been affected and resulted in delays. — DayakDaily
