KUCHING, May 10: Sarawakian athletes have so far secured two gold, one silver and two bronze medals for Malaysia in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Cambodia.
Grace Wong Xiu Mei bagged gold in the women’s hammer throw event while Kimberly Bong also bagged gold in the women’s three-metre springboard diving event.
Jackie Wong claimed silver medal in the men’s hammer throw event while Nur Durratul IffahYazit and Aly Hamuda Abdullah each took a bronze in Pétanque and gymnastic rings respectively.
In revealing the results, Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said he was proud to see Sarawakian athletes contributing to Malaysia’s medal tally.
“I know they have trained hard and given their best. As a matter of fact, they all started with Sukma (Malaysia Games) and progressed on to represent Malaysia.
“May more Sarawakian athletes win medals in the days to come. They are our stars and our pride,” Rentap told DayakDaily.
Rentap who is Layar assemblyman said SEA Games brings together the best national athletes from across the Southeast Asia region and is an arena where Sarawakian athletes may experience competing against their regional peers. — DayakDaily
