Sarawak and Brunei officials meet to discuss congestion at ICQS Sg Tujoh

KUCHING, May 10: There is a need for closer collaboration between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam to resolve congestion issues at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS), especially at Sg Tujoh.

Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin highlighted this when receiving a courtesy visit from the Consulate General of Brunei Darussalam led by Her Excellency Noni Zurainah earlier today.

According to a statement, several issues pertaining to process and procedure on movement of goods, possibility of expanding air connectivity were also discussed.


Also present at the meeting were Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) permanent secretary Dato Ir Alice Jawan Empaling, Muhd Adib Yazid Mohd Zaini and Thomas Ling from the Consulate of Brunei Darussalam office.

Meanwhile, in the Sarawak Public Transport Committee (SPTC) Meeting chaired by Lee yesterday (May 9), stakeholders across the public transport sector gathered to discuss issues and challenges faced by the public and industry players.

According to a statement from MOTS, this was the first SPTC meeting of this year, and it covered all sectors of public transport including aviation, riverine, logistics and land transport.

The meeting was attended by more than 80 participants representing the government sector, private sector, non-government organisations, professional associations and business associations.

Issues pertaining to land transport infrastructure such as bus terminals, lorry terminals, bus stops, provision of bicycle lanes, as well as riverine and marine transport were discussed.

The Divisional Public Transport Committees (DPTC) also had the chance to raise various problems faced on the ground.

With the input gathered from the SPTC meeting, MOTS will proceed to chart strategies, programmes and initiatives to facilitate the upgrade and improvement of Sarawak’s public transport sector. — DayakDaily
