KUCHING, Nov 1: The Sarawak government is continuing to strengthen inclusive development for children with special needs by expanding its One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC) network to Miri, which is scheduled to open this month.
In a TVS news report, caretaker Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women and Child Development Datuk Rosey Yunus said the expansion aims to ensure more children with special needs have access to early support and intervention, preventing them from being left behind in education and development.
She said the programme’s effectiveness was reflected in the fact that 28 per cent of children who completed the intervention programme successfully transitioned into mainstream education.
“Every child deserves the best opportunities to develop their potential, regardless of their disabilities or the challenges they face.
“A child’s success should not necessarily be measured by how quickly they achieve a particular developmental milestone, but rather by their efforts to overcome challenges and build their abilities according to their individual potential.
“We should not only look at how far a child has progressed, but also appreciate the efforts made to help them achieve that development,” she said at the second Inclusive Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Awareness and Outreach Programme held here today.
Rosey explained that the Sarawak government’s open-door policy allows children to receive early support and intervention without waiting for lengthy diagnostic processes.
She said this approach was important to ensure children received the necessary assistance early, thereby optimising their development. — DayakDaily
