KUCHING, July 14: Sarawak is stepping up its efforts to market itself as a preferred travel destination to the Indonesian market through a three-day, two-night familiarisation (FAM) trip in Kuching from July 10-12 involving a tourism delegation from Indonesia.
According to a press release, the trip, organised by the Inter-Continental Travel Centre (ITC), in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia and the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), involved travel agents, media representatives, and social media influencers from Indonesia.
“The trip aimed to strengthen tourism industry ties between Sarawak and Indonesia while providing participants with first-hand experience of the diverse tourism products available in Kuching and across Sarawak. These included the State’s rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, and authentic local experiences,” said the press release.
On July 10, participants went on a city tour featuring several iconic landmarks and attractions before attending an evening cruise along the Sarawak River and dinner at Top Spot.
The next day, participants visited the Sarawak Cultural Village to learn more about the diverse cultures, traditions, and lifestyles of Sarawak’s various ethnic communities through cultural performances and interactive experiences.
This was followed by lunch at Damai Central and shopping for souvenirs and local specialities, and a dinner at The Lamin, which also served as an industry networking platform and featured a souvenir and appreciation presentation ceremony by representatives from Tourism Malaysia, STB, and ITC in recognition of the participants’ involvement and support in promoting Sarawak as a premier destination for Indonesian travellers.

The delegation departed for Indonesia on July 12 after gaining comprehensive exposure to Sarawak’s tourism products, hospitality, and unique cultural identity.
“The experiences gained throughout the programme are expected to translate into the development of new travel packages, media coverage, and digital content that will further enhance Sarawak’s profile as an attractive destination in the Indonesian tourism market,” said the press release. — DayakDaily
