KUCHING, Feb 12: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) will be contributing ‘Sadaq Jumaat’ (Friday collection) from all mosques and suarau in the region as financial aid to the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

“The whole world is sad about what is happening in Turkey and Syria. We in Sarawak share the same sentiment.

“All collections on Feb 10 and the coming Feb 17 will be handed over to the earthquake fund for Turkey and Syria,” said MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha after officiating at a Quran recital at SK (A) Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan today.

He added that individual contributions are also welcomed.

“According to the latest news report, the death toll stands at over 25,000, and we could only pray on how we could contribute,” he said.

Misnu pointed out that they only focus on financial contributions and that other agencies might contribute other necessities.

“I don’t know any Sarawakians in those areas where the earthquake struck, but there are Malaysian citizens in these two countries.
