KUCHING, Oct 14: The Sarawak government will be building smart homes to prepare the region towards 2030, says Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said smart homes equipped with smart technologies would become more important as Sarawak faces an ageing population in years to come.
This initiative, he added, is also in line with Sarawak’s agenda to be the richest region in Malaysia in eight years while having a sustainable environment.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, urged the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) to explore ways to incorporate healthcare needs into smart homes, such as detecting falls or other medical emergencies.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Dr Sim was speaking when officiating at the UTS Smart Home and UTS Home book launching ceremony on Wednesday (Oct 12).
Also present were Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang, ministry permanent secretary Datu Antonio Kahti Galis, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, and UTS vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid. — DayakDaily
