PADAWAN, Oct 14: Bengoh Dam will be proposed as a State heritage area with a national park to be developed to protect the natural water source in the area.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the dam can become an attraction for tourists and visitors who can take advantage of the homestay in Kampung Sting that will enrich their vacation with local experience.

The Senadin assemblyman also emphasised that every tourism activity should be monitored to prevent water pollution.

“This is important because Bengoh Dam is a reservoir that supplies water for people in Kuching District and the surrounding areas.

“The Ministry, together with Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB), is always concerned about the cleanliness and safety of the dam,” he said during a working visit to the dam on Thursday (Oct 13).

Lee also took a boat ride to inspect and visit facilities like the jetties in Muk Ayun, Rarag, Dayak, Nyehor and Kandung, which lasted about 40 minutes.

The visit also included handing over life jackets to the boat operators. At the same time, Lee also informed that RM250,000 had been allocated to erect five units of riverine traffic signage along the banks of Bengoh Dam by April next year.
