KUCHING, Apr 18: In response to rising demand for Sarawak as a business events destination, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) intensified its engagement with the Asia Pacific (APAC) market through the ‘BESarawak Destination Update & Networking Session’, attended by more than 70 high-quality organisers and partners from Singapore.
According to a press release, the session was held in conjunction with ‘The Meetings Show Asia Pacific’ week, building on strong traction from the Sarawak Pavilion, where international organisers showed growing interest in Sarawak as a destination for impact-driven meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions.
Organised in collaboration with Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), the session highlighted the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 as a key driver for conventions and exhibitions, while also showcasing opportunities for corporate meetings and incentives, offering organisers a clear pathway to align their events with Sarawak’s development priorities.
“Singapore represents a high-value source market for Sarawak, with its strong base of regional headquarters, international associations, professional conference organisers, travel agents and destination management companies.
“This positions Sarawak to capture business events expanding beyond Singapore, particularly those seeking destinations that deliver impact, value, and distinctive experiences.
“As priorities shift towards long-term impact, Sarawak, supported by strong connectivity from Singapore, is positioned as a strategic partner, not just a host destination,” said Jason Tan Chin Foo, acting chief executive officer (CEO) of BESarawak.
Meanwhile, STATOS continues to work closely with Singapore-based organisers, particularly destination management companies and travel agents, through targeted market support and facilitation.
This coordinated approach strengthens confidence and ensures programmes are delivered smoothly on the ground.
“Our role is to turn interest into action by connecting organisers with the right partners and opportunities in Sarawak.
“As awareness of Sarawak continues to grow among Singapore-based organisers, we are focused on showcasing the destination as a modern, well-equipped choice with the right attractions, infrastructure, and capabilities to support high-quality programmes.
“Through consistent engagement, we help build confidence and make it easier for organisers to develop and deliver their events in Sarawak,” said Chew Chang Guan, CEO of STATOS.
During the session, organisers also showed strong interest in the Academic Mobility Programme (AMP), a new BESarawak initiative that connects universities with Sarawak’s priority sectors.
Through curated study visits and technical tours, the programme enables research and learning to be applied in real-world settings, creating opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry.
“Sarawak is emerging as a strong contender for corporate meetings and incentive programmes.
“Demand is driven by experience-led itineraries, with culture, adventure, nature, food, and festivals consistently ranking high for corporate groups,” said the press release. — DayakDaily
