KUCHING, July 15: Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) will continue to emphasise health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) excellence in its ambition to be a top-quartile utility and regional renewable energy powerhouse.
Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Sharbini Suhaili said among the multi-pronged approach implemented includes capability development for health, safety and environment (HSE) officers in the relevant competencies; continuous HSE in-house training, coaching, forums, and awareness programmes; regular stakeholder engagements for projects; continuous monitoring and improvement of HSSE performance at sites; and self-regulation to ensure compliance with internal rules and other regulatory requirements.
He also said Sarawak Energy’s contractors have been a significant part of the company’s journey and are strongly involved in many of the initiatives and programmes mentioned.
“Their consistent compliance with all HSSE-related regulations, legislations and rules have also been key in making Sarawak Energy a safer and greater place to work.
“From aligning with the Sarawak Energy Life Saving Rules to the monitoring of their respective HSE footprints, our contractors have willingly done what is required of them.
“Those who choose not to do so, choose not to work with Sarawak Energy,” he said during Sarawak Energy’s HSE Excellence Awards 2023 held at Pullman Hotel here earlier tonight.
At the same time, Sharbini congratulated seven projects under Contractor Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Compliance Award (CECA) and 32 Contractor Transformation Programme (CTP) winners for 2023.
“I am especially proud of the repeat winners from previous years, who have improved even more upon their performance to achieve a higher level this time around,” he added.
Amongst those present were Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Controller of Environmental Quality Jack Liam; Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE) director John Rampai; Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) director Jamadi Yusup; and Sarawak Energy senior vice president for HSSE, Marconi Madai. — DayakDaily
