Suspected drug addict runs amok in Saratok

KUCHING, June 28: A man who was believed to be under the influence of drugs slashed a 14-year-old boy at a house located at Kg Hilir, Kaba, Saratok on Saturday.

The incident was reported to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) at around 4.52 pm when the man, who is in his 30s, climbed the roof of the house through the ceiling after slashing the victim.

According to the Bomba report, the man was  armed with a machete and an axe which were used to injure the victim and had escaped to the rooftop after being chased by the villagers.

Upon reaching the scene, Bomba personnel together with the police tried multiple techniques to bring down the man by attempting  to climb up the roof but failed.

The Bomba report also said the Bomba team was expected to spray water on the man but he had returned to his room on the top floor of the house before they could do it at 11 pm.

On Sunday at 3 am, the police armed with a shield went into the house to catch the man but he had managed to escape by jumping down from the first floor and ran into the nearby bushes.

The man was caught at 4.40 am with help from the villagers.

Meanwhile the victim who suffered injuries on his thigh, arm and head was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.

The man was later arrested and brought to Saratok Police Station for investigation and the operation ended at 4.46 am.-DayakDaily
