MIRI, Nov 28: The people’s constant support towards the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led state government is the key factor ensuring the smooth implementation of development projects, especially in the rural areas.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau opined that some of the development projects carried out under the Highland Development Agency (HDA) within Telang Usan constituency are going well.
“It is part of the Sarawak government’s efforts in bringing holistic development to the constituency, hence, to ensure the smooth implementation of these projects, people must stay united and focus their support to the ruling government led by GPS,” he said.
He disclosed on Friday in Long Luyang, Ulu Tinjar Baram, during a thanksgiving event held in conjunction with the appointment of the village (Long Luyang)’s newly appointed tuai kaum Dennis Madang.
Dennis said the state government had provided an allocation, worth RM1.5 billion, to HDA and half of the amount was allocated to Telang Usan while the other half to Mulu constituency.
The allocation will be used to build roads and water treatment plants.
He added, under the HDA, eight water treatment plants will be built in villages within his constituency.
“The cost for each water treatment plants will be around RM10 million,” Dennis said.
Long Loyang is a Sebab, Kenyah and Kayan settlement, about five hours’ drive from Miri using the logging road.
Nearly 250 villagers from Long Luyang and its surrounding areas attended the event, which saw Dennis Madang replacing the previous tuai kaum of Long Loyang, John Avon. — DayakDaily
