KUCHING, May 7: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch will organise a dedicated service counter tomorrow (May 8), at Life Café, Jalan Padungan, from 6pm to 9pm, aimed at assisting Sarawakian students currently enrolled in higher education institutions with their applications for the RM1,200 Special Financial Assistance.
According to a statement today, the ‘Evening Community Service Counter’ programme is an effort to bring public services closer to the people.
At the same time, other community services and legal consultation will also be available, making this a comprehensive and convenient one-stop solution for local residents.
SUPP Kuching Branch Youth chief Nicholas Wung highlighted that the RM1,200 allowance has officially opened for application from May 1, 2025 and will close on June 1, 2025.
“Successful applicants will receive RM600 in the first round, and the next application window will reopen in September. To ease the process, SUPP will set up a dedicated counter during the event, where staff will assist applicants step-by-step,” he said.
Applicants are only required to prepare softcopies of necessary documents such as their IC (identity card), parents’ ICs, university offer letter, and Sarawak ID.
For those whose parents are government servants or salaried employees, only the latest payslip is required as proof of income.
However, for parents who are self-employed, business owners, or unemployed, an income verification letter is prepared on-site and Kapitan will be there for verification. SUPP volunteers will assist applicants to prepare these documents immediately at the event.
Wung also stated that the counter will provide additional services, including registration for the Kenyalang Gold Card, document verification, social welfare application support, OKU (persons with disabilities) registration, and free legal consultation.
As a practising lawyer, Wung himself will be present to offer legal advice to residents.
He said SUPP Kuching Branch is committed to bringing essential public services closer to residents and ensuring community needs are met.
“Many residents and students have difficulty completing applications during office hours due to their commitments. This evening service aims to solve that issue and provide hassle-free assistance,” he said.
Wung further urged eligible students and residents to take advantage of this rare opportunity to complete their applications. “The government’s intention behind the allowance is to reduce the financial burden on students. We want to ensure every eligible applicant receives the support they deserve.”
SUPP Kuching Branch welcomes all interested residents and students to attend and make full use of this public service. — DayakDaily
