SARATOK, May 7: The construction of the RM28.8 million Critical System Project at the Lichok Water Treatment Plant, slated for completion in October 2025, has reached 42 per cent progress—10 per cent ahead of the original timeline.

In a TVS news report, Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) through a statement stated that the project, which began in February 2025, is set to benefit over 6,700 longhouse households.

The scope of work includes building a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 10 million litres per day (MLD) and laying a five-kilometre pipeline from the Lichok plant to the Bukit Lebur Water Tank.

Once completed, the project is expected to significantly boost the treated water supply in the constituencies of Kabong, Kalaka, and Krian, which are areas currently facing rising demand.

The statement also reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s commitment, through the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) and JBALB, to strengthening water supply infrastructure in the region.

This commitment is further underscored by the implementation of the Critical System Project at the Lichok Water Treatment Plant and the Kabong District Water Supply Project (Package One), both fully funded by the Sarawak government with a total allocation of RM107.5 million. — DayakDaily
