Sukma 2024: Sarawak sweeps all 4 gold in taekwondo, total medal tally now stands at 12 gold

KUCHING, Aug 17: Sarawak made a clean sweep of all four gold medals in the taekwondo freestyle poomsae events at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) held this morning at the Indoor Stadium Petra Jaya.

The first gold went to duo Farah Nabilla Maddarus and Fedealis Kom Twin in the mixed pair category who scored 6.24 points, beating Kelantan’s duo Jonathan Rixie Ryan and Cady Fong Yu Eng (4.74 points) to settle for silver.

Meanwhile, Kedah’s Fredylster British and Avila Vianney Tet-Foot (4.54 points) and Pahang’s Muhammad Faris Danial Mohd Ziunizan and Tengku Natrah Adani Dalil Tengku Ahmad Muzaffa (4.26 points) secured joint bronze.

Sarawak’s second gold was contributed Chin Ken Haw who scored 7.23 points in the men’s individual category, leaving Johor’s Khoo Le Jie (6.77 points) to bag the silver medal, followed by Sabah’s Ned Augusti Nelson (6.10 points) and Perak’s Fan Chun Yao (5.73 points) to finish for joint bronze.

For the women’s individual category, Sarawak’s Zara Nur Zafirah Mohd Yusof won gold with 6.50 points, followed by Kedah’s Avila Vianney Tet-Foot for silver (5.74 points), while the joint bronze was bagged by Pahang’s Tengku Natrah Adani Dalil Tengku Ahmad Muzaffa (5.27 points) and Sabah’s Izza Qistina Mat Saidi (5.10 points).

On the other hand, trio Fedealis Kom Twin, Chin Ken Haw and Randy Owen Augustine Linggi won gold in the mixed open team category with 7.13 points.

The silver medal went to Kedah’s Avila Vianney Tet-Foot, Leonardo Jin Hao Huang and Peiny Chung Min Pei who scored 5.93 points, while the joint bronze medal was bagged by Kelantan’s Jonathan Rixie Ryan, Leoston Kok Zi Yi and Yong Qian Qian (5.80 points) and Sabah’s Dyana Farwizah Mhd Zaini, Fitri Natasha Sabanah and Harry Lee Clare (5.70 points).

Taekwondo, a Korean martial art and combat sport involving punching and kicking techniques, offers 25 gold medals in Sukma 2024.

With the victory, Sarawak currently has bagged a total of 7 gold, 1 silver and 1 gold in taekwondo.

This brings the State’s medal tally to 12 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze, as of press time.

Two more taekwondo categories, namely men’s and women’s featherweight events, will be contested this evening.

Taekwondo competition for Sukma 2024 has commenced yesterday (Aug 16) and will run until next Tuesday (Aug 20). — DayakDaily
