Students on schoolbus get early morning scare after rear-ended by lorry

Firefighters had to cut the lorry door to rescue two trapped victims.

SERIAN, Feb 5: A group of 20 primary school students were lucky to escape unhurt when their school bus met with an accident near Kampung Jerok Telagus along Jalan Serian-Sri Aman this morning.

In the incident which occurred at about 6am, the bus was on its way heading to school when it was suddenly rammed by a lorry laden with fertiliser from behind.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre in a statement said they received the emergency call at 6.07am and immediately dispatched fire fighters from Serian station to the scene.


Upon arrival, they found two lorry assistant drivers, one with a broken leg, still trapped inside.

The driver managed to climb out with the help of public.

Firefighters extracted both victims with special tools before sending them to Serian hospital.

Meanwhile, none of the students or bus driver were hurt.—DayakDaily
