KUCHING, June 17: The Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) applauds the decision of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Sarawak Education Department to put all training programmes and activities for teachers on hold until July 27.

STU in a statement today said MOE’s action is timely especially when teaching and learning is done from home.

“Teaching from home requires the teachers to work extra time to prepare their lessons to cater for students online as well as for those offline.

“STU hopes that with the postponement of all programmes and activities, teachers will be able to conduct home schooling in a more effective manner taking into account the challenges faced during the past experiences,” it said.

Meanwhile, STU called on all parents and the Parents Teachers Association (PIBG) to support their respective schools and teachers in these difficult times to ensure the success of homeschooling.

“We hope that everyone will play our roles in making sure that all students participate in home schooling based on the schedule prepared for them, and we must make sure no students are left out of our education system during these trying times,” the statement added. — DayakDaily
