KUCHING, March 9: The Education Ministry (MoE) has announced the placement of 2,577 new teachers in Sarawak between 2023 and March 2024, according to Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

Out of the total, 1,247 teachers were assigned to primary schools, while 1,330 were allocated to secondary schools across the region.

The latest placement was on March 7, 2024, which consisted of graduates born in Sarawak.

“The MoE is confident that this effort can further reduce the teacher vacancy gap for all schools in our country and especially in the Sarawak region.

“MoE is also considering filling future teacher vacancies especially for primary and secondary schools across the country through the appointment of contract of service (COS) candidates in the near future.

“In this matter, the MoE is always committed to managing the needs of teachers throughout the country to ensure that our children who attend school get the right to access education,” he said during a welcoming dinner in conjunction with the 2024 National-level ‘Gerakan Massa: #terimakasihcikgu’ event held at Hikmah Exchange here last night.

The event was officiated by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who represented Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Among those present were MoE secretary-general Datuo Indera Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi, director-general of Education Azman Adnan, and Sarawak Education Department director Datu Dr Azhar Ahmad. — DayakDaily
