KUCHING, June 2: Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing is calling on residents of PPR Bandaria Park to not use ladders to climb over fences in the area in order to escape from the imposed lockdown following the detection of increasing Covid-19 cases in the residential flat area.

In a pre-recorded press conference released on his social media page today, Tiong said as of May 31 (Monday), in just Block A of PPR Bandaria Park, four positive Covid-19 cases were detected.

“This morning (June 1, Tuesday), when the report came out, there were an additional six new cases. We are talking about only one block.

“So I ask the residents of PPR Bandaria, don’t use ladders to climb over the fence to get out. I am appealing for your cooperation,” said Tiong, who is also the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China.

He also called for the support of corporate companies and plantation owners as to take Covid-19 seriously by sending their workers for Covid-19 test swabs phase by phase.

On the 152 new Covid-19 cases detected on June 1, Tiong said these cases are mainly from quarantine centres and lockdown areas. However, tenants of rented properties were also a major contributor.

Bintulu, he said, has three clusters, namely the Sungai Plan (Sg Plan) Cluster, Samalaju Cluster and Rented House Cluster where the Sg Plan Cluster contributed about 30 cases, Samalaju Cluster 60 cases, tenants of rented properties in town about 20 cases.

He said in general, there are many from other parts of Sarawak staying in rented properties.

“We are investigating. There was a case in point. There were four of them. They came from other divisions, our neighbouring division. They came, they settled in rented houses. And when they started to report to work, they went for (Covid-19) swabs, all four tested positive.

“That is why I called on all the checkpoints, be tougher in your checking, and more strict in carrying out your checking.

“Those without documents, either ask them to turn back or (if they stay) they have to be responsible for all the costs incurred for a quarantine period of 14 days,” said Tiong. — DayakDaily
