Stampin MP wants in-depth investigation into 24yo uni student’s ‘sudden death’ after drug test reveals 3 illegal substances

KUCHING, Oct 22: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of a 24-year-old university student who was discovered unconscious by a roadside outside an entertainment outlet at Petanak here in the early hours of Oct 16 after a urine drug rapid test showed the presence of three illegal drugs.

In a statement today, Chong stated that the police have conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that there is no criminal element involved in the case. As a result, the case has been classified as a sudden death.

“The deceased family has approached me today to seek help to find the truth of the matter. They are skeptical about the police’s classification of the death as ‘sudden death report’.

“According to the family, the urine drug rapid test of the deceased detected traces of three drugs, including Methamphetamine and MDMA, which are illegal drugs in Malaysia.

“How a young lady could die so suddenly is a question that the family seeks an answer to, especially given that the urine drug rapid test reveals traces of illegal drugs,” he said.

“I urge the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter, so the truth be revealed. I will also be raising the matter in next week’s Parliament sitting.”

The Stampin MP asserted that drug abuse has become increasingly prevalent in Kuching and throughout Sarawak.

“Normal citizens can only rely on the police to protect them from the abuse of these drugs, what more when a young lady is found dead with traces of such drugs in her urine test. Therefore, the police must step up their investigation.”

Chong pointed out that the death of the university student has led to suspicions regarding possible drug abuse as a contributing factor. — DayakDaily
