KUCHING, Aug 25: The Stakan Unity Carnival, scheduled to be held from Aug 26 to 30, has been postponed due to haze and poor air quality in Kota Samarahan.
The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) said the decision was made as a precautionary measure, taking into account the deteriorating haze situation and rising Air Pollution Index (API) readings in the area.
The postponement is aimed at protecting the health, safety and well-being of everyone involved in the carnival, including visitors, participants, traders, event personnel and members of the public.
MPKS said all activities and programmes planned in conjunction with the carnival would also be postponed until a new date is determined.
“The new date for the Stakan Unity Carnival will be announced at a later time through the official media channels of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council,” it said in a statement posted on its social media today.
The council also expressed its appreciation for the public’s cooperation and understanding, while apologising for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
The decision comes as haze conditions continue to affect parts of Sarawak, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to minimise public exposure to unhealthy air quality. — DayakDaily
