KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 28: Vehicles linked to illegal dumping near Taman Bukit Berangan have been traced, with compounds issued to those involved following a viral incident that drew public attention on Oct 6.
Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) said it took enforcement action following public complaints, identifying the vehicles and issuing compounds to those responsible in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
“The landowner has also taken steps to clean up the affected area, while an unofficial access route used to enter the site has been closed to prevent further illegal dumping,” MPKS said in a statement shared on social media yesterday (Oct 27).
The council clarified that its regular waste collection service covers only domestic waste, excluding bulky items such as construction debris, furniture and industrial waste.
Those generating bulky waste are advised to contact MPKS for guidance on proper disposal, with the costs of managing, transporting and disposing of such waste falling under their responsibility.
MPKS warned that illegal dumping incurs additional clean-up and disposal costs beyond its regular operations, while polluting the environment and affecting the cleanliness and comfort of nearby residents.
The council urged the public to dispose of domestic waste through designated facilities and bulky waste through proper disposal channels, rather than dumping it indiscriminately on public or private land.
It also encouraged residents to report illegal dumping activities within its administrative area to help the council take action against those responsible.
MPKS expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation in keeping Kota Samarahan clean and well-maintained. — DayakDaily
