KUCHING, May 10: Nearly five months after the new St Peter’s Church, Padungan opened its doors to the public, and with its consecration scheduled for June 29, the church is still in need of RM4.235 million to fully cover its RM38 million construction cost.
As the milestone event approaches, parishioners and kind-hearted supporters are urged to contribute generously to help bring the church to full completion in time for its consecration.

As of April 30, 2025, the church has raised RM31.765 million, with an additional RM2 million government grant provided by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).
The consecration of St Peter’s Church will be held on June 29.
It will be marked by a week-long celebration beginning on June 28 (Saturday) with an official opening ceremony at 10am, followed by the launch of a commemorative book by Archbishop Dato Dr Simon Poh. The event will be attended by government dignitaries, religious leaders, benefactors, and parishioners.
On June 29 at 7pm, the Archbishop will preside over a solemn Mass for the consecration of the church. The celebration continues on June 30 with a special event honouring Rev Father Vincent Chin, rector of St Peter’s Church, who marks his 40th priestly ordination anniversary and 70th birthday.
A mini concert featuring local and visiting talents will be held on July 1 in the church. Tickets will go on sale starting Monday, May 12, via www.stpeterschurchkuching.org.
From July 2 to 5, the church will host Masses led by various churches across Kuching, including St Joseph’s Cathedral, Blessed Sacrament Church, and others.
All are welcome to join the celebrations. – DayakDaily
