KUCHING, Nov 24: Dedicated channels for voters aged 60 and above will be provided at polling stations in the coming 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12).
Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said this would be one of the upgrades that will be implemented on polling day (Dec 18).
A total of 13,871 identified OKU voters with disabilities or require special needs (OKU), he added, will vote through Channel 1 in each polling station.
He also noted the 30-minute extension of voting time in PRN12 from 7.30am to 5pm, as compared previously the time period of 8am to 5pm in the 14th General Election (PRU14).
Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani said the eligibility requirements for overseas category postal voters as previously implemented have been abolished, which required such voters to reside abroad except in the Southern Region of Thailand namely Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla and Satun, Singapore, Brunei and Kalimantan.
The other condition that required voters to have been in Malaysia not less than 30 days in a five year period prior to the date of dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly, will not be taking effect as well.
Applications for overseas and domestic postal votes for Malaysian citizens who are abroad (Form 1B category) and agencies in the safety and health sector (Form 1C category) have been open from Nov 8 to 24.
For EC members or officers, police officers, army members and media officers under Form 1A category, applications will be open from Nov 24 to Dec 3.
“Applications to vote by post can be done through MySPR Register at the following link: https://mysprdaftar.spr.gov.my.
“Applicants are advised to apply earlier when the application date opens to avoid any issues or difficulties,” said Abdul Ghani in a media conference at a local hotel here today.
EC has today set Dec 6 for nomination day, Dec 14 for early voting day and Dec 18 for polling day.
There will be a 12-day campaign starting Dec 6 after the nomination process until 11.59pm on Dec 17. — DayakDaily
