SIBU, Feb 13: Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) Sibu office has organised various activities to promote the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SESSS).

This includes holding briefings and opening SESSS registration and payment counters.

A spokesman held discussions with the Sibu Central Market Hawkers Association chairman on January 20, 2022, to open SESSS counters in markets.

SOCSO Sibu SESSS officer Nizam Ramli also had talks with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Nangka branch deputy chairman Abang Abdul Hamid in designing the SESSS briefing programme.

“Besides that, we had on February 8 conducted an engagement session with the Sibu Spinal Cord Injuries Association (SSCIA),” he said.

This was followed by a monthly briefing held for students who took the Goods Driving Licence (GDL) course at the Sibu Vision Driving Institute and a discussion by the head of SOCSO Sibu Enforcement Unit, Sylvester Candy Pai, with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) on February 10.

“The announcement by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz during the last Budget presentation stated that the government has agreed to allocate funds to the target group of self-employed people (informal sector) under the SESSS Contribution Matching Programme.

“It is a protection scheme where the government provides 80 per cent contribution payment assistance from Plan 2 (RM232.80) to a target group of eligible self-employed persons (EPS).

“EPS only has to pay 20 per cent of Plan 2, which is only RM46.60. This application starts from January 1, 2022, and will end on December 31, 2022,” he said.

In line with SOCSO’s responsibility in providing social security protection to workers in the informal sector, he said under the EPS, SOCSO Sibu has intensified efforts to ensure that those eligible under the SPS ACT 2017 will register and contribute and promote the Budget 2022 initiative under the SESSS Contribution Matching Programme.

He stressed that the series is for individuals in Sibu, Kanowit, and Selangau who are eligible to register and have contributed to SOCSO.
