KUCHING, March 24: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) is urging the police to not allow politicians and activists to stir up hate using the uproar over the sale of socks with the word ‘Allah’ on them.

PBK president Voon Lee Shan in a statement today said prolonged action capitalising on the matter can affect the economy and cause workers to lose the jobs.

“Now it seems some groups of people are behaving like law enforcement officers, prosecutor and judge without regard to professionals who are empowered to do the job.

“Such behaviour of a few can have negative image (sic) against law enforcement agencies

“Police should also cause those who created hate against the convenience store to be investigated under Sedition Act 1948,” he said.

Meanwhile, Voon opined the Sarawak government should intervene in the socks controversy involving KK Super Mart to prevent the convenience store chain from being ‘destroyed’.

According to him, Sarawak takes pride on the success of KK Mart Convenience Store which was founded by a Sarawakian Dato Seri KK Chai.

“KK Mart is a success story and should not caused by current politicising of the ‘Allah socks’ be forced to close down,” he added.

He said with the recent uproar over the socks, some politicians and activists are bent on seeing KK Super Mart closed down.

“One should not discount the possibility of sabotage against KK Super Mart by business rivals or religious extremists to destroy flourishing businesses from Sarawak,” Voon said. — DayakDaily
